Read reviews before trip and was concerned BUT found this hotel great for a three star. Beds comfortable, fluffy white towels, tea and coffee in room, evening meal very tasty, bar fine, breakfast great. Train station just through the car park...had day in Birmingham. Staff very helpful and welcoming. Will be booking again in the near future. Some people just moan...one man having evening meal of gorgeous fish and chips served on a massive oval plate decided to send it back because it was not big enough...its people like these who try and find fault with everything that give hotels a bad review. I can assure you that this hotel gets the thumbs up from our visit.
Very poor food in the restaurant, the bill was wrong as some charges were entered twice, the decor in the bedrooms and along corridors and stairs was old and could do with refurbishing, the indside does not match up to the outside, it was more like a rather basic bed and breakfast in the 70s than a "country hotel " as its name suggests, very disappointing
Nice big bedroom. Staff were very friendly and very helpful, especially when we got there and realised Booked.net hadn't put us down for The Real Deal, despite us requesting it! But we upgraded and it worked out fine. Also sorted out a champagne bucket and glasses for our room for when we returned in the evening.
Swimming pool was a bit small. The sauna's are in the changing rooms, which was a bit weird - why can't they be in the pool area where the steam room is, which wasn't on by the way! We didn't get a second set of toiletries when the room was cleaned.
It was relaxed, easy going and good for children, dogs and walking. We were up for the weekend to watch our son play hockey at Cannock so it was very well located just 10 minutes away by car and also close enough to walk into the lovely village for pubs and eating places.
There was a smell of stale smoke in our room and along our corridor. Decor in the rooms and particularly bathrooms was a little tired, and a lick of period paint (in traditional period colours) would go a long way to brightening them up. Far better than a modern shoebox hotel though.
The room was amazing, classed as standard doulbe but was like delux, the staff very friendly an helpful
The room was huge!!!! The staff were very helpful, welcoming and friendly. The food was lovely and we went for the real deal which was exactly that a real deal!!!! We were celebrating our anniversary and it was made perfect by the staff and hotel itself. Thank you
Bins kept immediately outside lower floor bedrooms are emptied early, this woke me up
I would stay again, and recommend this Hotel to friends and family.
Comfortable rooms good food, and a added bonce of a swim pool & sauna.
Calm relaxed atmosphere and efficient friendly service.
Nothing to report.
we were staying at the hotel as an overnight for a wedding reception. the room was clean and tidy, the staff were very helpful and all in all added to our excellent evening. Didnt try the pool or Gym but would certainly stay again in needed.
The cleanliness of the hotel, nice pool facilities
no 24 hour room service, we couldn't get food at 9.30
Convenience for our purpose
The smell on enetering the hotel lobby and breakfast expensive
We always stay at mssp (Hatherton Country House) as it takes dogs and is in a very convenient and pleasant location. It is close to the facilities in the small town of Penkridge but is on the edge of the town and in semi rural surrounds. The staff were friendly, and the young man in charge during our stay was particularly helpful.
The hotel was rather too close to the railway station (100m), but it doesn't really disturb you if you have the windows closed. They don't run too late, nor too early though.
The extra large bed in the room was a nice surprise and the bed linen of good quality. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful good value for money location breakfast good value and staff helpful
The facilities were excellent except for the changing rooms at the leisure centre, there was nowhere secure to leave my door pass key and had to go and ask for towels for swimming, fllor quiete slippy although there were signs and sauna out of order It seemed such a shame they were not used more. I myself did not have suitable trainers with me otherwise would have used the gym. In restaurant went for a meal but was not able to have a table until 9.15 as had not pre booked because didn't know when arriving so went into town to eat
Use of the leisure club and massive size of the bed in the room
Cold water tap ran tepid water - presumably cold pipe too close to hot pipe. No iron in room
